This project is very different than anything else I’ve done. I love the songs and there’s something starkly honest about recording them on vocals and guitar with now studio embellishments.
The thought process behind this project was to record a selection of songs on vocals and guitar, employing no technological wizardry to enhance or “fix” any of the performances. Nothing would be added to the final mix, it would be a pure representation of the performance itself.
Recording began on Monday, November 8, 2004. I was to use a Newmann U-48 microphone – it would pick up every subtle vocal nuance as well and my acoustic Taylor guitar. The last session was on December 22, 2004. What little mixing there was, was done on Monday, January 3, 2005.
